The Apple Pencil is often touted as one of the best stylus’ available in the market, offering features like low latency, tilt sensitivity and pixel-perfect accuracy. At the upcoming Let Loose event on May 7, where the Cupertino-based tech giant will unveil the latest generation of iPads, we will also see the much anticipated Apple Pencil 3.
The upcoming stylus is said to pack in some new features, making it a better option than Samsung’s S Pen. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new Pencil will reportedly offer haptic feedback, making it feel more realistic than its competition.
While the known Apple analyst did not share any more details about how the functionality will be implemented, the haptic feedback might change depending on which tool you are using. For example, if you are using a crayon, the Pencil may feel rougher or heavier as compared to when scribbling using a pen.

Another report by 9to5Mac, code spotted in iPadOS also hints that the Apple Pencil 3 will have a new ‘squeeze’ function. However, it is still unclear what it does. Speculations also suggest that the Apple Pencil 3 will offer a ‘contextual menu’ that will enable users to quickly perform certain actions like adding stickers, shapes and text.
In terms of design, the Apple Pencil 3 is said to get a more glossy look compared to the current matte finish. We may also see magnetic interchangeable tips. While some say these tips will have varying thickness, Apple might make it simple for users to change once it’s worn down. Just like last year’s budget Apple Pencil, the upcoming one is said to be compatible with iPad Air and iPad Pro, but there is no information on how much it will cost.
In September last year, Apple filed a patent for an “input device” that helps control a virtual pointer in a 3D space, indicating that the tech giant might be gearing up to introduce Apple Pencil support for the Vision Pro.
