Angela Scanlon says 'dreams come true' as she replaces Graham Norton with new radio job

Angela Scanlon has been revelling in delight after landing her “dream” job as the Co Meath woman prepares to begin presenting her very own breakfast show at Virgin Radio.

She is the second Irish presenter to join the station in recent months after the arrival of former RTÉ stalwart Ryan Tubridy in January at the helm of weekday mid-mornings.

Angela is replacing countryman Graham Norton who stepped down from his Saturday and Sunday morning slot of 7am, and she will begin her new show later in the month, RSVP Live reports.

She said: “‘I know how many of you have dreamt about waking up to my husky dulcet tones, well dreams come true gang.

“I’ll be getting up with you every weekend on Virgin Radio and I am inappropriately excited. Stick the kettle on!”

Graham, who has a packed schedule as host of The Graham Norton Show, Eurovision commentator and RuPaul’s Drag Race judge, announced he was leaving his weekend show back in February.

Speaking on his decision, he said: “Now the show isn’t quite the normal show today because I have a bit of an announcement to make – I’m leaving weekends here at Virgin Radio,” he said at the time.

“I’ll still be kind of popping up on the station from time to time but my regular Saturday and Sundays, I’m stepping away.

“I’ve worked weekends between here and the old place for 13 years and my life has changed a bit so I just want my weekends back.”

Angela’s high-profile broadcasting appointment has not come out of thin air. She has been enjoying considerable success in UK showbiz circles, hosting BBC’s popular interiors show Your Home Made Perfect, while regularly filling in to guest host The One Show after previously presenting Robot Wars.

Last year, she took part in Strictly Come Dancing, narrowly missing out on the quarter-finals with professional partner Carlos Gu.

Angela also hosted RTE’s popular Saturday night chat show Ask Me Anything.

Virgin Radio will welcome a few other well-known faces to its weekend line-up, including former children’s TV presenters Dick and Dom, as well as comedians Keith Lemon and Tom Allen.
