Source: Cowboys 'Zeroed In' On Brooks in NFL Draft

FRISCO – Are the Dallas Cowboys already “zeroed in” on using a second-round pick on Texas running back Jonathon Brooks? Or maybe even a first-round pick?

We have argued that is a class that lacks a true Round 1 talent when it comes to the running backs. But we are also hearing that Dallas is very much attracted to Brooks … who is coming off a knee surgery – but one performed by Dr. Dan Cooper, one of the country’s finest surgeons who happens to also be the Cowboys team doctor.

And one source does indeed use the phrase “zeroed in” to describe Dallas’ affection for the player.

So, Brooks on Day 1? Brook on Day 2? Many think Brooks could do what the departed (to Tennessee) Tony Pollard can do … or maybe even more than that, given Brooks’ skill set.

Brooks is definitely a big-play guy. But is he a bruiser? Can he pass-protect? Is the knee a non-issue?

Maybe the 24th overall pick for him is a little high. Maybe the 56th overall pick for him is a little high?

The good news on Brooks? Dallas knows him very well … as the Cowboys have created for themselves a “need” at the spot, with Rico Dowdle back, joining Malik Davis and Deuce Vaughn (and even with the signing of vet Royce Freeman)… and with Dallas knowing an upgrade is necessary.
