mets daily prospect report, 4/14/24: doubleheaders and strikeouts galore

Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (7-5)

POSTPONED (RAIN)

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-3)

BINGHAMTON 9, ERIE 2 (BOX)

Having dealt with their fair share of bad weather in Erie this week, the Rumble Ponies opened their doubleheader with a resounding win. Kevin Parada hit a solo home run, Brandon McIlwain drove in three, and Jose Peroza went yard, too. Joander Suarez struck out four and walked two while giving up a pair of runs in four-and-two-thirds innings.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-4)

ERIE 7, BINGHAMTON 6 (BOX)

In the second game of their doubleheader, the Rumble Ponies took a 6-3 lead into the sixth inning, but they didn’t score the rest of the way and saw their lead disappear. Three relievers combined to give up four runs, three of which came in the sixth inning. As minor league doubleheaders have long consisted of seven-inning games, this one went to extras with the score tied through seven, but Erie scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (2-5)

BROOKLYN 6, ASHEVILLE 2 (BOX)

Felipe De La Cruz and Dakota Hawkins combined for nine strikeouts and just one walk and gave up a total of two runs in a win for the Cyclones. Stanley Consuegra had a great game, going 2-for-2 with a couple of runs scored, a home run, and three runs batted in.

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (3-5)

BROOKLYN 3, ASHEVILLE 1 (BOX)

The Cyclones made it a doubleheader sweep, and the three pitchers who combined to hold Asheville to one run topped the strikeout and walk performance of their teammates in the first game with a combined eleven strikeouts and one walk.

Low-A: St. Lucie Mets (3-5)

ST. LUCIE 14, JUPITER 1 (BOX)

Not to be outdone by the pitchers in Syracuse who have recently racked up strikeouts, Jonah Tong fanned ten opposing hitters in just four innings of work. He walked three and gave up one run in that span, but that lone run was unearned. As if that weren’t enough. Austin Troesser struck out six in four innings of relief, and Juan Arnaud added a pair of strikeouts in his inning of relief. Eighteen strikeouts!

That pitching performance alone would have been enough to win most games, but the St. Lucie offense absolutely went off. Jesus Baez and Nick Morabito each drove in three runs, and multiple other players had a multi-hit night.
