Samsung’s latest 2022 version of The Frame is like a combination of a 4K TV and piece of art in one. When turned off, the QLED TV displays artwork that resembles an actual canvas painting thanks to the new anti-glare, low-reflection matte coating on the screen. Yet, when turned on, it becomes a smart 4K TV with a fast 120Hz refresh rate, surrounded by a tasteful frame. While it lacks full-array local dimming and support for Dolby Vision like some other similarly priced televisions, it’s still a unique TV in a class of its own with discounts hitting all sizing configurations at Woot. The M2-powered 13-inch MacBook Pro may be the latest MacBook Pro, but while it’s a good machine (particularly in terms of long-lasting battery life), it doesn’t topple Apple’s finest laptops. あなたの想像よりもずっと怖いことかもしれません（写真：Michael Nagle、 Haruyoshi Yamaguchi／Bloomberg） アメリカのIT大手Amazon（アマゾン）が家庭用ロボット掃除機「ルンバ」を発売するiRobot社を17億ドル（約2300億円）で買収すると発表しました。 гЂђгѓ©гѓіг‚ング】これが｢金持ち企жҐпЅЈгѓ€гѓѓгѓ—500з¤ѕгЃ このニュースについて日本のあるメディアは「Amazonが家電販売を強化するため」と報道しました。実際にはこの買収、そんなレベルの話ではありません。もっと深い意図があるはずの戦略と考えられます。 GAFA（Google、Apple、Facebook＝Meta、Amazon）の一角であるAmazonが競合するGoogleやMeta（旧Facebook）との競合の中で、戦略的にiRobotを買収することにした。その結果、Google、MetaとAmazonのパワーバランスがまた崩れる可能性が出てきたということがこのニュースの本質だと私は捉えています。それを説明しましょう。 AmazonがiRobot買収で先手を打った意味 今回の買収のそもそもの背景はiRobot社の株価が2021年の2月をピークに長期下落傾向にあったことです。以前は36億ドルの企業価値があったIT企業が半額の17億ドルで買える水準になった。株価が下がった理由はこの先、中国の家電メーカーとの競争でルンバの売れ行きが先細りしていくことが予想されていたからです。 その観点でiRobotはいずれアメリカのIT大手のどこかが買収を仕掛けるのは必然だったのだと思います。しかし先手を打ったのがAmazonだったという点が重要です。 Amazonはeコマース、プライム、クラウドの3つの主力事業を持つIT企業です。一方で競合優位性という観点ではロボットとAIによるDX（デジタルトランスフォーメーション）に強みを持っています。Amazonの倉庫では商品を格納した棚がルンバのような走行ロボットで自在に動き回る構造になっていて、それが倉庫の生産性を劇的に向上させています。 Amazonのリアル小売店舗として知られるAmazon Goは無人コンビニと呼ばれる通り、店内には無数の監視カメラやセンサーが設置されていて、AIの判定によってレジを通さなくても誰が何を買ったのかが正確にカウントされる仕組みが確立しています。 そしてAmazonが次に狙っているのが一般家庭のDX化です。スマホで開錠できるAmazon Key（注：日本ではKey for Businessとして集合住宅向けに展開中）に交換してもらい、2018年に買収した見守りカメラのRingで家の中の安全を確認できるようにする。 家の中の家電はスマートスピーカーのアレクサ（Alexa）でコントロールしてもらう。2021年にテスト販売を始めたペットロボットのようなAstro（注：Amazonでは「用途を決めずに開発した」と発表）が家の中を歩き回り、大邸宅の場合はセキュリティをAmazon製の室内ドローンが担当するといった具合にさまざまな商品による家庭用DXラインナップを拡充しています。 このAstroというロボットはSONYのaiboのようなペット目的と、家庭で飼われている犬の古来からの役割である番犬の役割を果たすように進化する方向にあるように推察されるのですが、その開発が苦戦していたという情報が入ってきていました。 そこでルンバがAmazonの戦略上、必要になってきたのではないかというのが私の推理です。ちなみにAmazonは秘密主義で有名な企業なので、その戦略意図についてはどうしても推理が入り込まざるをえない点はあらかじめ読者の皆様にもご了承いただきたいと思います。 ルンバは軍事技術がルーツ そのルンバですが、もともとは軍事技術が元になって生まれた高度なロボットです。日本人はそもそも軍事技術については関心が低いかもしれません。一般的に言えば、一般家庭に入っている民生機器よりも企業のオフィスや倉庫、工場などで使われる産業機器のほうが高い信頼性が必要とされるものですが、軍事技術はその産業機器よりもさらに一段高い信頼性が必要とされます。逆に言えば軍で使われている製品は民生用機器よりもはるかに優秀なものです。 ルンバの場合は戦場での地雷探知ロボットの技術が転用されています。自律的に家の中を走り回りながら、家の地図を隅々まで自動作成する性能を持ったロボットがルンバです。そしてこれはAmazonがどうしても欲しい技術のひとつなのです。 ここから先は、欧米の規制当局とGAFAが真っ向から戦っている微妙な領域の話になるので、あくまで未来構想として話を聞いていただければと思います。 Amazon、Google、Metaの3社は本質的には「個人情報を法律に抵触しない形でどこまで詳細かつ正確に握るか」をめぐって競争しています。Googleは検索連動広告という技術を元に「自動車」と検索窓に打ち込んだ人は自動車を、「水着」と打ち込んだ人は水着を買おうとしている人だと先回りして判断することで、実際にその人が購買行動をする前に広告を提示できることを強みとしています。 MetaはフェイスブックやインスタグラムといったSNSへのエントリーやいいねを分析しながら、消費者がどのようなことに興味を持ち、どのような感情で何を欲しいと考えるのかをAIによる行動分析や性格分析といった観点から踏み込もうとしています。 そしてAmazonは伝統的には「これを買った人はこれも欲しいと思うはず」という購買履歴から個人の購買嗜好を理解しようとして発展してきました。 Amazonは家の中にすっかり入り込む？ これら3社は違う形で同じように、個人情報をいかに賢く把握するかを巡って競争しています。そして将来の法律上それが許されるかどうかは別として、家の中にすっかり入りこむことを目指しているのがAmazonの「一般家庭のDX化商品ラインナップ」だと考えることができるのです。 ...
