Alia Bhatt at the Met Gala: Representing India at the ‘Garden of Time’
Alia Bhatt is a fashion icon but she is also one of the best representatives of India and Indian fashion. She graced the Met Gala red carpet in a saree. The saree is designed by one of India’s most notable fashion designers, Sabyasachi Mukerjee.
Bhatt spoke to Gwendoline Christie and Ashley Graham, two our of the three Met Gala hosts. She spoke about the months of preparation that the look took and that it all “builds up to this moment.”
She expressed excitement that she got a chance to represent India by wearing a saree to the most exclusive and fashionable night of Hollywood life. She called the dress code timeless and then proceeded to say that she wore a saree to truly resonate with the theme because a saree is timeless as well.
Bhatt was glowing from the inside out and the outside in. Her hair were tied up in a beautiful messy bun with a bedazzling headpiece and she wore stunning gold earrings. The saree is a beautiful light blue, almost ethereal, with a bow on the back! The entire dress is hand embroidered and it took 1,905 man hours to make. According to Alia, to make the dress, around 150 men were needed. It just goes to show that Sabyasachi designs ooze with decadence and we are all for it.
As she was walking the red carpet, all the paparazzi kept yelling her name, it almost felt like chanting. It feels beautiful to see India being celebrated and represented and we are so glad that Alia Bhatt is doing exactly that.
This marks Bhatt’s 2nd time at the Met Gala. Even in 2023, Bhatt made her way into the best dressed lists of a lot of entertainment and fashion portals. She wore a custom Prabal Gurung gown inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s bridal look for Chanel’s 1992 fall/winter collection.
