Aldi Ireland has issued a major product recall notice for a popular food item that “may contain metal pieces” after possibly being “tampered with”.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued an alert for Village Bakery 8 White Tortilla Wraps, which were sold in the supermarket for €1.19.
It said: “All best before dates of Village Bakery 8 Tortilla Wraps White are being recalled due to the possible presence of metal pieces as the product may have been tampered with.”
The wraps have since been removed from supermarket shelves and recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale. The recall affects all batches and all best before dates, up to and including April 29, 2024.
Customers are advised not to eat the product. Anyone who has the affected item at home can return it to any Aldi supermarket for a refund.
Aldi confirmed that a police investigation has been launched. A spokesperson said: “As there is an active police investigation we are not able to comment any further on this matter at this time.”
