Brewers' battle with teamsters shuts down Molson Coors Texas facility

More than 400 employees of the local Teamsters union at Molson Coors’ (NYSE:TAP) Fort Worth, Texas plant went on strike Saturday amid stalled contract negotiations between the Teamsters union and the brewer.

The two sides have been trying to hammer out a new three-year contract for higher wages since November. While the union claims the company offered a wage hike of less than $1 per hour, a spokesperson from the company cited by Fox News says the union has not responded to their latest offer that “exceeds market rates.”

“While we respect the Union’s right to strike, we have strong contingency plans and are well equipped to ensure consumers will be able to buy their favorite Molson Coors products,” the spokesperson added.

The Teamsters union is also mobilizing for a strike against Anheuser-Busch (BUD) by the end of February that could impact all of the company’s U.S. breweries, along with a boycott similar to the Bud Light/Dylan Mulvaney boycott last year.

Anheuser-Busch (BUD), however, claims the company has made repeated attempts to work out a new contract but union representatives have canceled four negotiations and walked out of the most recent.

Like Molson Coors (TAP), Anheuser-Busch (BUD) has contingency plans in place for a nationwide strike.

“Come March 1, Anheuser-Busch is prepared to operate our breweries and keep beer stocked in the event there is a work stoppage,” a company representative said.
