San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan suffered yet another Super Bowl loss that also featured a blown lead of sorts.
After his infamous 28-3 blown lead as the Atlanta Falcons’ offensive coordinator in 2017 and the 49ers’ 20-10 blown lead to the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth quarter of 2020’s Super Bowl, his team, yes, blew another lead on the big stage.
The 49ers got up to a 10-0 lead to start the game, but the Chiefs got right back into the contest after a tough start to win in overtime 25-22.
It’s a brutal mark for Shanahan, who has lost his third Super Bowl with a team that held a meaningful lead at some point in the contest.
He’s the game’s brightest offensive mind, so it stands to reason he could be back in the Super Bowl with San Francisco one day.
However, at least for now, he’ll have to settle in the fact that blown leads are will be what define his big game appearances for now.
