18-month-old boy killed in Clare road traffic tragedy named as tributes pour in
A one-year-old child killed in a tragic road accident on Wednesday afternoon has been named as Hunter Molloy.
It is understood the tot had been playing with his aunt just before he was hit by a car on the Quin Road in Ennis, Co Clare just after 12pm. The infant was rushed to University Hospital Limerick but was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
Paying tribute just hours afterwards, a heartbroken aunt of Hunter’s posted online: “My little nephew. I was playing with you two minutes before you passed away. My heart can’t take any more, please lord take me away from this cruel world. R.I.P our hunter, may you have the best bed in heaven. Please God get his parents through this heartache. Uncle Thomas and Uncle Jim will have their arms wrapped around you, no doubt.
Hunter’s mum had also only posted a picture on social media of her “blonde boy” full of life just hours before the tragic incident. It is understood the child was one of three siblings and his mother is due to give birth next month.
Clare Traveller Community Development Project also made a statement expressing their deepest condolences to Hunter’s family.

A spokesman said: “Our deepest condolences to the Molloy family, our thoughts and prayers are with ye at this very sad time.”
Neighbours told the Irish Mirror that the death was “heartbreaking” and that the whole area has been left with a “massive hole in their hearts” after the tragedy.
A family liaison officer was sent to support the family in the wake of the heartbreaking tragedy. Gardaí also confirmed that they remain at the scene and that the area was closed off pending an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí are at the scene of a fatal road traffic incident at a residential area on Quin Road, Ennis, Co. Clare that occurred shortly before 12.30pm this afternoon, Wednesday 8th May 2024. A male infant was transferred from the scene to University Hospital Limerick. He has since been pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.
“A family liaison officer is being appointed to support the family at this time. The scene is currently preserved pending an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. No further information is being made available.”
