Map shows where will be the hottest in during scorching UK 'mini-heatwave'

Things are finally starting to heat up in the UK after a pretty miserable run of bad weather.

Parts of England could bask in highs of 20°C today – a very welcome change from Storm Kathleen a week ago.

There is even an outside chance of Friday turning into the hottest day of the year so far.

England and Wales are both expected to be mostly dry with warm sunshine, but it will likely be cloudier in the far west, according to the Met Office’s Friday forecast.

London could see highs of 18°C, with Belfast, Liverpool and Newcastle all likely to see similar peaks of 17°C.

The warm sunshine will continue in the South and South East into Saturday, according to the Met Office’s weekend outlook.

But the news isn’t as great for western Scotland and North West of England with rain set to fall.

Wales will see a bit more cloud on Friday, with temperatures hovering at around 15°C.

The average April temperature in the UK is 12°C, so the warmer spell will make it feel like an early summer for a few days.

But the mini-heatwave is mild compared to the scorcher that hit on April 16, 1949.

A weather station in the capital measured a record-breaking 29.4°C, the hottest April temperature to date.

Weather on Saturday, April 13

If you are out on Friday night, you will be glad to hear the temperature will stay ‘mild’, the Met Office said.

However, northwest of the UK will see some rain and gustier winds on Friday night heading into the weekend.

Although the weather turns slightly cooler across most of the country, London and South East could see highs of around 20°C on Saturday.

Weather on Sunday, April 14

End of the weekend also brings the weather back to reality and to the April average.

There will be a significant drop in temperatures across the UK, with most of the country staying between 9°C and 11°C.

South of England, Wales, Midlands and the North West will be cloudy.

Most of Scotland could see glimpses of sun alongside showers.
