MANILA, Philippines — Even Creamline star and the face of Philippine volleyball Alyssa Valdez could not help but enter her fangirling mode as she met USA setter and fan-favorite Micah Christenson.
Following the USA-Japan Men's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) match at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, Valdez, who has access at the press room and the mixed zone, met Christenson.
'The Phenom' got to converse and took a selfie with Christenson, a bronze medalist with Team USA at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
"He was telling me about snacks that all the Filipinos have been giving them. One of his favorites is 'napoleones' so if you guys want to give them 'napoleones', they will finish it," shared Valdez.
"Aside from that, he shared the qualifying of the number of sets they've been, they need to qualify so they're kinda disappointed with the result but he was telling me that they need to practice more for the Olympics."
Valdez, who turns 31 on the 29th, said it's overwhelming to have conversed with the 31-year-old Christenson, one of the best setters in the world.
"It feels great. I think one of the most recognized volleyball players right now would be [him]. He's one of the best setters. I'm getting goosebumps and overwhelmed by that fact that they also recognize Filipino volleyball players so thank you and we're really going to support them in the upcoming games."
Valdez also got the chance to have selfies with USA libero Erik Shoji and Japan spiker Yuki Ishikawa.
