Red Sox earn 7-4 win in bullpen game vs. Reds, take series

The Boston Red Sox entered Sunday afternoon's matchup with the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park with a chance to earn a series win, and they did just that, beating the Reds 7-4.

Boston's offensive performance was strong again, driving in six on 10 hits. RBIs came from Jarren Duran (3-for-5), Rob Refsnyder (1-for-4 with a two-run home run) and Connor Wong (1-for-4 with a two-run home run). The other run was scored on a throwing error on a fielder's choice.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora opted to go with an opener in this one, letting reliever Zack Kelly get the start. He was great, giving up just one hit and striking out three in his 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Brennan Bernadio gave up on run on two hits in his 1/3 of an inning, and Brad Keller gave up three runs on four hits in his inning of work.

Boston got scoreless outings from five other relievers, including Greg Weissert, Cam Booser, Chris Martin, Justin Slaten and Kenley Jansen, who got the save.

This win brings the Red Sox record to 42-36 on the season and 24-16 away from Fenway Park. They're now six games above .500 for the first time this year. Now, Cora's squad will return back to Boston for a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays, who they just swept on the road.
