Torrential downpours possible in Friday storms across southern Ontario
Strong storms swept across southern Ontario on Thursday. The summer still solstice day was quite stormy. Here's a look at Dorchester from June 20th. And we had a very unstable atmosphere and it continues to be triggered by all this heat that we've been seeing. 3534.5° on June 19th at YYZ and we are starting to get a little bit of a break. Though the highs are only mid 20s. Humidex Valley is feeling like mid 30s so that's leading to a lack of a trigger and a little bit more uncertainty in the risk here. So currently we have a severe possible region from Windsor up to about the Oshawa area encompassing GTA, Toronto and the Golden Horseshoe for scattered but strong storms with torrential downpours, lots of moisture and this could lead to flooding risks along roadways, strong wind gusts and small hail. Now you'll notice we have almost a stationary front, which is aiding the instability of triggering these storms. And this high pressure system is going to sink over eastern Ontario, triggering more storms. But those will be nocturnal. We could see a risk of thunderstorms overnight Friday night into Saturday morning. Now I mentioned flood risk, but this is a ton of moisture surging up over the Great Lakes, leading to a very large risk at flooding and heavy downpours, so keep your eyes peeled if you're on the roadways.
