One couple's big day has been thrown to chaos, all because of their strict booze rules.

Alcohol and weddings may seem like a necessity for many, but they can also create some sticky situations. If your uncle has a penchant to try doing the worm after a few pints or you reckon your best friend will end up chundering over the wedding cake - it might be best to try and implement some sort of order.

Many venues already have rules against ordering shots of spirits, just so guests can pace themselves a little. However, one not-so-happy couple have been accused of taking things way too far and trying to 'spoil the fun'.

Taking to Reddit, one woman says her and her fiancé decided against having an opening bar as they're not 'comfortable' with people drinking heavily due to coming from an 'alcoholic-heavy family'. Instead, they've allegedly opted for a drink ticket service where people can customise what beverage they would like.

"With the invitations was a card with the expectations one is to expect from the ceremony and the reception," the post reads. "I didn't want to shock people when they arrived so I figured the cards would be a nice, classy heads up for our guests.

"The drink service bit of the card said, essentially, that alcoholic drinks were limited to two per of-age guest, the 'tickets' are non-transferable, and the other beverages offered would need to be ordered from your seat at your assigned table. Drinks were also to be enjoyed at your assigned table."

However, the woman claims after sending the invites, she's received criticism from both sides of the family - calling her 'rude' and a 'bridezilla'. She says her uncle has also accused her of trying to 'spoil the fun of a wedding reception'.

Thousands of users flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts, with many slamming the couple's for their strict rules. "Your ticket plan went from moderately novel to aggressively controlling the more you explained it," one person fumed. "Are you going to have security tackle Aunt Joan if she gets out of her chair with a glass of chard in her hand?"

Another agreed, commenting: "This is taking it overboard. You can not have alcohol at your wedding if you want (people will leave early, so be prepared). But thinking you get to decide where they can have their drinks? Bizarre and controlling. You can't reasonably limit people to their table like this." A third added: "If you are this uncomfortable with alcohol, you should probably go with a dry wedding."

Others tried to reason with the bride-to-be, saying the limiting of drinks isn't necessarily the problem, but ordering people to stay at their seats won't go down well. "The ticket system is reasonable. It controls costs and keeps drinking down a bit. All the other is over the top," one person wrote. Another said: "You're not a warden running a prison. It's a wedding."
