World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery just teased some big changes coming to class balance, raids, and world bosses in Phase 4. Though the first endgame update of Season of Discovery doesn’t have a release date yet, World of Warcraft players can expect to learn more soon.
Season of Discovery is World of Warcraft Classic’s game-changing experiment that has featured multiple phases, each with new level caps, endgame content, and class-altering Rune engravings. Considering the fourth phase of Season of Discovery is its first one at the Classic level cap of 60, World of Warcraft has taken some extra time to perfect the update, and to release it at the most opportune time.

World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Might Add a New Legendary Weapon
World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Phase 4 might be getting an iconic Legendary weapon that has not yet been seen in modern WoW.
Now, World of Warcraft Classic has revealed a first look at Phase 4 of Season of Discovery. The early development blog confirmed class adjustments, plus Rune engravings for the Cloak slot and brand-new class-agnostic Utility Runes for Rings. However, one of the biggest changes coming in the update is the transformation of Lord Kazzak and Azuregos – two Classic world bosses – into instanced raids for between 20 and 40 World of Warcraft characters. These new challenges sound similar to Onyxia’s Lair, which will be tweaked to accommodate the same number of players.
WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 4 Features
- Level Cap: 60
- Discoverers Delight XP buff increased to 150% through level 50, then 50% until level 60.
- Cloak Rune engravings for every class.
- Class-agnostic Utility Runes for the Ring slot that add bonuses to core stats or ability types.
- Class adjustments, including some Runes becoming baseline abilities.
- Profession recipes for the Argent Dawn, Thorium Brotherhood, Hydraxian Waterlords, and Timbermaw Hold reputation factions.
- Nightmare Incursions become a daily quest hub.
- New rewards and currencies for the Stranglethorn Vale Blood Moon PvP event.
- Endgame WoW dungeons like the second half of Blackrock Depths, Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul, Scholomance, and Stratholme, all with new rewards.
- Rank 10 PvP Class Sets.
- 20-man Molten Core raid with variable difficulty.
- Lord Kazzak, Azuregos, and Onyxia redesigned into instanced raids for 20 to 40 players.
As previously confirmed, Molten Core is becoming a 20-man raid in WoW Classic Season of Discovery. That said, this new version of the iconic World of Warcraft raid has a variable difficulty mechanic. Seemingly inspired by the Heroic and Mythic raids in modern WoW, it sounds like raid teams will be able to literally turn up the heat in Molten Core for a bigger challenge and better rewards.
The Discoverer’s Delight XP boost that World of Warcraft Classic has periodically increased throughout Season of Discovery is getting a buff as well. In Phase 4, characters will get 150% bonus experience from all sources until level 50, after which it will drop to 50% until they hit the new level cap of 60.
Fans can expect a full Phase 4 preview soon that will likely extrapolate on these features, and reveal a release date for the first endgame phase of Season of Discovery. In the meantime, fans interested in getting a sneak preview of World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Phase 4 can do so in the first-ever SoD Public Test Realm, the goal of which is to focus on class balance and the new Rune engravings.
