Aussies have come up with a clever way to save money while still enjoying luxury brands during the cost of living crisis.
Thrifty shoppers are buying empty bottles on Facebook Marketplace of Australian luxury cosmetics brand Aesop and then refilling them with cheaper skincare products.
Sydney meme queen Claudia Bursill, Instagram user Miss Double Bay Sydney posted a Facebook Marketplace listing from an enterprising seller advertising empty bottles of Aesop shampoo, face cleanser, hand wash, room sprays and other products for $5-$10 each.
The genuine Aesop room sprays cost up to $77, shampoos are priced between $25 and $65, hand wash is $51 and you can pay up to $59 for face cleanser.
One Facebook Marketplace ad reads: 'Empty Aesop bottles - already cleaned - $10/ each for the ones with lid - $8 for the one without lid - $25 for all.'

Some were amused while others applauded the clever marketing ploy.

Others suggested creative uses for the recycled bottles.

A Reddit post featured a UK seller who has empty 'Aesop Resurrection bottles for home styling' available for £7.
One Reddit user commented, 'This is so sad to me... what has the world come to!'
Another suggested shopping at Marks & Spencer, 'While we are it, m&s has a great hand soap and bottle is cute too! Do not pay for overpriced s***.'
One reply offered excellent economic advice on keeping up appearances without spending a cent.
