Drunk British woman BITES Spanish cop while being hauled off BA flight in Lanzarote after captain asked for 'troublesome female passengers' to be removed

A British holidaymaker has been arrested after biting a Spanish police officer as he tried to take her off a plane at Lanzarote Airport, local media reports.

The drunk tourist was hauled off the British Airways flight before it could take off from César Manrique Airport in the holiday hotspot back to London Gatwick at around 9.45pm last night.

The captain had requested that police intervene to deal with 'some troublesome female passengers' who were intoxicated and displaying 'a defiant and aggressive attitude,' according to the police report.

When they arrived, Guardia Civil officers identified two disruptive passengers and ordered them to leave the plane, Canarian Weekly reports.

One did so reluctantly, 'pushing and protesting' as she left, while the other reportedly refused, complaining that she had paid for her flight and would not get off the plane.

The crew was forced to evacuate the first ten rows of the plane in order to remove the disruptive woman, who was sat in row nine.

She started to become violent, at one point grabbing an officer and biting him on the right forearm.

The violence continued, leaving the officers with 'various bites, scratches, kicks, and punches'.

The altercation ended with the woman's arrest and she was placed in custody before appearing before judicial authorities today.

The Civil Guards' union has said it will support the agents involved.

It has highlighted the incident as the latest example of violence towards guards, and called for more to be done to ensure their safety.

The union said in a statement today that it demanded that the Interior ministry designate their duties as 'risky' and equip the force with electric stun guns.

It comes amid a crackdown on drunk and rowdy British tourists in other Spanish holiday destinations such as the Balearic Islands.

Lanzarote's president said last year that the island is 'saturated' and over-reliant on British tourists, but later reassured UK holidaymakers that they are 'always welcome' on the island.
