Thirsty England fans drink TWO months' worth of beer - or 7,500 pints - in two days at German restaurant - in bar's busiest weekend since 2006 (when Three Lions last played in city)

Thirsty England fans drank an impressive two months' worth of beer in two days at a German restaurant which was its busiest weekend since 2006.

Around 40,000 Three Lions fans descended on Gelsenkirchen for the Euro 2024 opener against Serbia and many celebrated at GE Piazza in the city's German old town.

It became the unofficial headquarters of England fans, where they drank more than 7,500 pints, some even 'pre-loading' local lagers at 9am.

On a standard weekend, the restaurant gets through two kegs. But when fans arrived on Saturday, it churned through 60 kegs in 36 hours.

Located near the town's main square, GE Piazza became the place to be as fans danced on tables late into the night for the 1-0 win over Serbia.

Speaking to The Mirror, manager Umit Yavuz, 43, said his bar hasn't been this busy since the last time England played in the city in 2006.

His bar was already onto the 60th keg - the equivalent of 7,500 beers - before fans had even got back from the stadium. This will have made the bar €50,000 over the two days.

He told the newspaper: 'I put on an England shirt to entice the supporters in. It's always a popular move.'

His sister Deniz, 38, also runs the bar. She said: 'The English are a thirsty bunch. You drink beer like we drink water.'

It comes after one England fan claimed to have partied so hard he woke up inside the Veltins-Arena.

The shivering supporter found himself still inside FC Schalke 04's stadium on Monday morning and shared footage of him in the upper tier of the empty ground.

England survived the momentary threat of a Serbia comeback in their opening Euro 2024 match as Jude Bellingham's brilliant first-half header earned Gareth Southgate's a crucial victory.

The post has since gone viral, with fans amazed at how the individual found himself stranded in the ground given the enhanced security measures in place around the competition.

Speaking to the camera as he panned around an empty stadium, the England fan said: 'I've just woken up. It's four o'clock in the morning. I'm shivering in Schalke's ground.'

Temperatures dropped to around 14C degrees in the early hours of Monday morning, with the fan complaining of the cold he experienced while dressed in a hoodie.

The video footage shows a barren 62,000 capacity stadium with no stewards or staff to be seen, but the floodlights have remained on.

Despite the post being viewed thousands of times across social media platforms, some supporters have questioned the authenticity of the post.

One fan questioned why he hadn't been found during the routine end-of-match search of the premises, stating on X: 'How did the security not find him?'

And although it was generally a great atmosphere, some England and Serbian football fans clashed in ugly scenes on the streets of Germany just hours ahead of the Three Lions' opening Euros 2024 match.

Shocking pictures showed supporters covered in blood after violence broke out ahead of England's first Group C game against Serbia.

German riot police quickly descended on the scene as football hooliganism made a shameful return to the Euros, with police sources telling MailOnline at least six people were arrested.

There was speculation over which supporters were involved in the vicious brawls, with reports initially suggesting the violence was sparked by Serbia's arch-rivals Albania attacking Serbs.

However, Gelsenkirchen police have now said it was English and Serbian fans who were involved in the fighting.
