Fans Missed Jim Parsons and Jesse Tyler Ferguson's TV Reunion Backstage at the 2024 Tonys
What happens when two sitcom actors get in a room together? Well, thanks to an unexpected moment behind the scenes of theater's biggest night, you get an unexpected reunion!
The 2024 Tony Awards occurred on June 16, where The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons was nominated for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play with his role as Carl in Mother Play. That night, the category was presented by Modern Family alum Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who won the award in 2022 for his work as Mason Marzac in the Broadway revival of Take Me Out. While Jim eventually lost out to Will Brill from Stereophonic, fans would be surprised to learn the two actors had a sweet moment after the ceremony was over.
In a behind-the-scenes moment seemingly captured at the Tony Awards afterparty, both Jim and Jesse found themselves engaged in conversation with a fellow attendee. With the hand of husband Justin Mikita on Jesse's shoulder, folks could see him sit alongside Jim and his Mother Play co-star Celia Keenan-Bolger. The group looked comfortable and relaxed around each other, making it an instance fans wouldn't have expected from actors whose characters are known for their frenetic energy.

While it may seem surprising to see Jesse and Jim in the same photo, it turns out this isn't the only time folks have seen them in the same conversation.
Jesse and Jim have been friends for quite some time, as seen with Jim appearing on Jesse's Dinner's on Me podcast in June 2023. What's more, the two have acknowledged each other on social media, with Jesse posting a photo of him, Jim, Celia and Justin after a performance of Mother Play back in April.
Loved seeing two of my favorite people play siblings in "Mother Play" at @2stnyc," Jesse wrote on Instagram. "This cast is incredible! @therealjimparsons @celiakb and Jessica Lange!"
Needless to say, we definitely would love seeing the two work together on a project soon.
