Chiefs QB Mahomes: 'We Didn't Play Our Best Last Year'
Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs defense ended the season as a top 10 defense in the league as the team won their second consecutive Super Bowl and third in the last five years.
While most of the glitz and glamour goes to the offense, and rightfully so with guys like tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, it was the Chiefs defense who led the way for their dynasty-making run last season.

The NFL All-Pro set a career-high in interceptions, a category no quarterback wants to add to. In their quest for three straight Super Bowl wins, a feat that has never been accomplished, Mahomes believes the offense also has to improve.
“I think it’s two things, I think one is just the confidence that the defense has just off the year they had this last year. You can see that they’re trying to build on that,” Mahomes began. “Then offensively, obviously, we felt like we didn’t play our best last year and even though we won, we knew we had a lot of places to improve.”
Striving to be better than the day before is something the former Red Raider has talked about since coming into the league. That mentality has rubbed off on his offensive teammates.
“I think guys had that mentality coming into OTAs and minicamp,” Mahomes explained. “That’s something that I think has gotten the best out of everybody is that every single day [you all] hear it – we’re talking trash but it’s in a good way then we go off, we talk about it after practice of what we can do better. It’s been a great OTAs and minicamp, one of the best that I think that I’ve been a part of.”
The former NFL MVP and his teammates are off for summer vacation before reporting to training camp on July 22. If this offense improves from last year, and the defense does too, we could be seeing something we’ve never seen before come January.
The first-ever Super Bowl three-peat.
