Royal Family goblet with Princess Diana engraving discovered in charity shop

A goblet dated to the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has been found in a charity shop (file)

A goblet bearing the engravings of "HRH Prince Charles" and "Lady Diana Spencer", discovered in a charity shop, has left Royal Family enthusiasts scratching their heads.

The silver goblet, dated 1981, was shared on the r/RoyalFamily Reddit forum by user Current-Scar-940, who was keen to understand more about the item. Quick responses confirmed it as a "commemorative goblet", but the original poster was curious about its potential auction value, leading to revelations from royal mug collectors about the worth of such items.

"I have a large collection of royal mugs and that don't really have much resale value at all," one user commented. To which the original poster replied: "Fairs enough lol... it's mainly a gift for a friend who's into royal monarchy and such."

It turns out similar goblets are available on Etsy and eBay for prices ranging from a few quid to £20. Other users advised checking for any potential markings, which could indicate a more valuable find.

One user suggested: "Probably just a commemorative cup but check the bottom for any hallmarks or markings and look those up online. Those will tell you what the cup is made out of and what company made it. [sic]".

One theory proposed that the goblet could be a "wedding souvenir" from Princess Diana and Prince Charles' wedding, which took place on July 18, 1981. This aligns with the date inscribed on the cup.

The goblet also features the Prince of Wales' feathers, the heraldic badge of the heir to the British throne. The badge consists of three white ostrich feathers encircled by a gold coronet. It also bears the German motto "Ich bien" meaning "I serve".
