Bethesda Responds to New Fallout 76 Scoreboard Controversy

  • Bethesda did not intentionally limit the rewards on the final page of the Fallout 76 Season 17 Scoreboard.
  • The developer is currently looking into fixing this recently identified issue, which sparked some harsh criticism from the fandom.
  • All rewards on the final page of the new Scoreboard should eventually be available in unlimited quantities, as was the case in Season 16.

Bethesda did not intentionally limit the rewards on the final page of the latest Fallout 76 Scoreboard, a company representative said. While this clarification offers some good news for Fallout 76 fans who criticized the apparently unintentional changes, the newly identified bug isn't fixed just yet.

June 12 marked the start of Fallout 76 Season 17, Skyline Valley. Apart from expanding the game's map of Appalachia for the first time ever, the game's latest update also introduced a new Scoreboard, the second one since Fallout 76 transitioned to a battle pass-like seasonal progression system. But as one player who opted to rush through the new battle pass by buying ranks quickly discovered, 30% of the rewards on the final page of the Season 17 Scoreboard are only claimable once. Their finding resulted in the fandom offering some harsh criticism of Bethesda, especially since the non-repeatable nature of the rewards wasn't communicated in advance, but only became apparent after reaching the bonus page at rank 150.

Bethesda 'Looking Into' Fixing the Bonus Page of Fallout 76 Season 17 Scoreboard

As it turns out, this state of affairs isn't an issue of transparency, but implementation. That's according to LunarNeko, one of the moderators of Bethesda Game Studios' official Discord server. Responding to one fan complaint over this Fallout 76 Season 17 Scoreboard controversy, LunarNeko described it as a "known issue" that the developers started looking into on the morning of June 13, ET. The company representative did not provide a timeline for when players can expect a fix.

The bonus bundles containing Legendary Modules, Legendary Cores, and Perk Coins are hence each only claimable once for the time being. This ostensibly still isn't a problem for the vast majority of players, as there simply wasn't enough time to complete the Fallout 76 Season 17 Scoreboard just yet, at least not through regular play. On the contrary, the only way to reach its final page right now, four days since Skyline Valley's release, is to buy ranks.

Starting from this season, it's possible to purchase ranks beyond 100, up to the 150th one required for unlocking the last page of the Scoreboard. This particular change appears to have been intentional, especially since some Fallout 76 players have been asking for it since the battle pass-like system first launched back in March 2024. At the same time, some other fans characterized the raised rank purchase limit as further evidence that the new Scoreboard was intentionally made grindy to incentivize spending. Bethesda, for its part, previously said that reaching rank 100—which is the final stage that includes new cosmetics—takes the same amount of time as it always did, S.C.O.R.E.-wise. The bonus page merely offers currency and other types of farmable resources.

Aside from these apparently unintentional Scoreboard changes, the June 12 update also elicited some other player complaints. Among other things, Fallout 76 fans have recently criticized the new Season 17 event, Dangerous Pastimes, describing it as equal parts unrewarding and uneventful.
