After the Los Angeles Kings were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers. There were a ton of rumours circling about the potential of the team buying out Pierre-Luc Dubois.
At the management group media day available, GM Rob Blake spoke publicly about how the team is not going down the road of buying Dubois out.
This means unless they trade him, he will be back with the team for the start of the 2024–25 season.
However, as we get closer to the first buy-out window in the NHL off-season, those same rumours are back circling, only this time they seem to be much more intense.
If the Kings do choose to buy him out, the breakdown would look like this:
Dubois' buyout would be over 14 years and would cost $15.8 million, with savings of $31.6 million. The buyout penalty would need to be paid over the next 14 years, meaning the Kings could be on the hook to pay this until 2037–38.

Above is the full breakdown of what it would cost the Kings to buy out Dubois for the next 14 seasons. Is it worth it?
Ultimately, it depends on how bad the Kings want out of the contract and what they expect the cap to continue to rise to in the coming seasons.
However, if they don't buy him out this off-season and he doesn't have a good season again, it would be almost a guarantee that they would buy him out next off-season.
