NYT: Warner Bros. Discovery on verge of losing TNT NBA package
All right, right now, the latest on negotiations for the NBA TV rights. The New York Times reporting that Warner Brothers Discovery is on the verge of losing its longtime package of NBA games that it airs on TNT. The Wall Street Journal has reported that the NBA is nearing deals with ESPN, Amazon and NBC that would collectively be worth about $76 billion / 11 years. NBC is owned by the parent company of this network, we should point out. And then there was this. On Friday night, Charles Barkley saying he would be retiring from television after next season. He's been a long time fixture on TNTS inside the NBA studio show. He's been a huge fan favorite because he speaks exactly what he thinks it says exactly what's on his mind. He's been publicly critical of Warner Brothers Discovery's leadership for its handling of the media rights negotiations. But he says no matter what happens, he's out after this next year till he comes back in somewhere. That's what I that's what I thought too. If, if it's sweet enough deal, it'll be the Eagles when hell freezes over. Exactly, that's what I hope cuz he's so good at what he does. Not the Eagles, dude, not the Eagles. The Bank of England latest policy decision is due Thursday. The UK central bank is expected to hold rates steady the head of elections early next month, but it may begin laying the groundwork for a rate cut in August or September. But. Strategist at TD Securities are warning that if Taylor Swift's Aristor does what people think, it could delay. A rate cut. We're talking about people flooding into the UK to see her final UK tour dates in August and bring an influx of spending that could skew inflation data. The TV analyst said that the surge in hotel prices could be material, could actually show up in economic numbers, adding as much as 30 basis points to services inflation. That could be enough to make the Bank of England rethink a rate cut. We're not kidding. We've we've it's about about these six or seventh time that we've talked about something related Chicago, something related to the numbers we report on skewed by the the Taylor Swift effect. It's interesting. We used to talk about a stock, like a stock that had the Oprah effect on it, Oprah Winfrey, right? Like Weight Watchers or something along those lines. But Taylor Swift actually moves entire economies. Yeah. Yeah. Economic numbers. Yeah. Yeah.
