2024 MLB mock draft roundup: Here's what experts believe will happen in upcoming draft

The College World Series is nearing its end. The MLB Draft is less than a month away. And the MLB Draft Combine is just a few days away.

Just last year, we were able to witness Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews of LSU face off against Wyatt Langford of Florida. Those three players wound up each going in the top four of the MLB Draft. Now, a year later, the 2024 College World Series will once again feature some of the best players on MLB big boards.

Of course, not everyone projected to go early in the first round made it to the College World Series. Georgia's Charlie Condon and Oregon State's Travis Bazzana each saw their teams eliminated in the super regionals. Wake Forest featured three potential first-round picks in Nick Kurtz, Chase Burns, and Seaver King. They didn't even make it past regionals.

Still, as we approach the College World Series finals, let's take a look at what experts believe will happen when the MLB Draft starts on July 14.

2024 MLB Draft Predictions:

Edward Sutelan, Sporting News: Bazzana, Condon go 1-2 respectively

Sutelan writes, "It feels like Cleveland will be deciding between three choices: Travis Bazzana, Charlie Condon or save draft pool money with a high-schooler. This class doesn't have the depth of usual classes, so it makes sense to take the college bat of the Guardians' choosing, which in this case is Bazzana. The Oregon State second baseman is perhaps the most well-rounded profile in the class with an advanced hit tool, above-average power and speed and solid defense at second. He might be on the Opening Day roster by next year. Yes, Cleveland already has Andres Gimenez at second, but it will find a way to get both in the lineup, even if it means moving Gimenez back to shortstop or Bazzana to the outfield."

Max Schofield, SB Nation: Condon goes No. 1 over Bazzana

Schofield writes, "Throughout the spring Charlie Condon and Travis Bazzana have flip-flopped in this position, and if the Guardians end up drafting Bazzana it will certainly not be a surprise. Both players posted video game numbers this year (with Condon putting up a slash line of .433/.556/1.009 along with 37 home runs) and the Georgia infielder has room to grow into his 6’6 frame."

Mike Axisa, CBS Sports: Chase Burns goes No. 3 to Colorado

Axisa writes, "My guess is the Rockies would not pass on Bazzana or Condon if either is still on the board here. They're not in our mock draft, so we'll give Colorado the best pitcher in the draft class in Burns. He's not Paul Skenes but Burns is dynamic and would be the top pitcher in the draft most years. Colorado used top-10 picks on pitchers in 2022 (Gabriel Hughes at No. 10) and 2023 (Chase Dollander at No. 9), so they'll willing to roll the dice on arms up high. They're hoarding high-end arm talent as they try to solve the pitching dilemma at Coors Field."
