Met Office Monday afternoon weather forecast 17/06/2024
Good afternoon. After a fairly bright start to the day, cloud will bubble up a little this afternoon and there is a risk of some heavy showers for some of us. But I think many of us should get away with a fairly dry day. But you can see there's a large swathe of cloud up to the north of the country. That's where low pressure is close by. That cloud is wrapped around the area of low pressure. That's where the focus for showers and rain will be. There is also a northerly wind coming into parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, parts of northern England as well. It will feel a little bit cooler here than elsewhere. But for many of us, it should stay fairly dry and bright through the afternoon. As I said, a risk of showers, particularly across eastern areas of Scotland, northeastern England, as well as the Midlands later on this afternoon. There is a possibility we could see some thunderstorms as well. But as I said, for most of us. A fairly dry and bright day and actually across the South and east we could see temperatures climbing to around 24° above average for the time of year but most of us in the high teens which is around. Should be a fairly bright end to the some late sunshine to come this evening. Showers still continuing across eastern areas of Scotland in particular where we closer to that low pressure it will turn drier through the night. Rusty clear skies for many areas but also a risk of some mist and fog developing where we have seen any showers through today. So potentially bit of mist and fog around first thing but for most of us it should be a bright start to the day on Tuesday and temperatures. Around 11 or 12° for many towns and cities that similar to where we were this morning. So quite a similar start tomorrow. The best of sunshine in the morning. We will see cloud thicken through the day and I think Tuesday is actually going to be a cloudier day than today in general. We do see this area of rain approach from the South and east. This may clip the far South East of England, parts of Kent, Sussex, towards Essex as well to bring a risk of some very heavy rain. That's worth keeping an eye on if you're in those areas. But elsewhere many of us should stay dry and bright. It will be cloudy as I said, but there is a risk of showers this time across more north western areas. Parts of western Scotland, northwestern England in particular, that's where the greatest risk of those heavier showers. We've still got this northerly wind that's going to be bringing a fairly cool field to the north of Scotland through the as well. And for most of us, temperatures will be a little bit down compared to the mid teens, possibly the low 20s in the best of the sunshine across the far South. But a bit of a cooler and cloudier day to come, but certainly not too bad at all if you do escape any of those showers. Showers will likely continue through Tuesday evening. It does tend to turn a little bit drier as the evening progresses. You can see we've got this clearer spell of weather arriving for the middle of the week. That means there's more sunshine on the cards to come for Wednesday and Thursday, but you can find more details on our latest Week Ahead video on YouTube.
