Why is breakdancing an Olympic sport?
Braking will make its debut at the 2024 Olympics, but what is it and how has it become part of the Games? Break dancing is one of two new sports to be added to this year's competition, making it the first dance sport to appear in Summer Olympics history. It made its debut at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Argentina and was hailed as a great success, receiving over 1,000,000 viewers, according to NBC Olympics. After this huge success, organisers of the Paris Olympics wanted to incorporate it into the 2024 Games. The Paris Olympics wants to reach younger audiences who are active on social media. International Olympic Committee hopes to inspire millions of kids to start breaking, but how will it work? 16 male athletes and 16 female athletes will go head to head in solo battles. Competitors will have to keep up with the beat of the DJ's track, improvising against their opponent and using a combination of power moves including windmills, the six step and freezes. Whichever Breaker wins at this year's Games will go down in an Olympic history as the first of their kind.
