1 dead, 32 hurt in bus crash
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A teacher died while 36 others were injured when a bus fell on its side in Purok Talos, Barangay Igmayaan in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental on Friday.
Mayor Laurence Marxlen de la Cruz said 32 of the injured are teachers at the Paglaum Village Elementary School in this city.
The teachers were on their way home after a team building activity in Sipaway Island when the accident occurred.
The bus driver, Nelmo Gonzaga, told Radio Mindanao Network’s dyHB that he lost control of the wheel when the brakes malfunctioned while driving down the road.
Gonzaga was taken into custody.
Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Benitez said the city government provided assistance to the victims, including their medicine, x-rays and laboratory tests, among others.
