Valencia have lodged a £25million bid for Mason Greenwood
Mason Greenwood is clinging to the hope of a permanent move to Spain after Valencia made a £25million bid for the Manchester United striker.
Juventus have been tipped to land one-cap England international Greenwood, 22, in a deal said to be worth up to £40m with add-ons. That is nearer United’s valuation, but a source close to Greenwood’s camp confirmed Valencia’s “concrete offer’’ and insisted “his priority is Spain’’ after a season-long loan with Getafe.
The La Liga side were keen to hold on to Greenwood, who scored ten goals in 36 appearances, but can’t afford him while Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have also shown interest. The player is set to leave Old Trafford this summer with United receptive to offers.
Greenwood joined Getafe on loan last year and there had been speculation that he could be reintegrated into the Manchester United squad. Shortly after acquiring a 27.7 per cent stake in the club, Sir Jim Ratcliffe outlined that a final decision over Greenwood's long-term future would be made at the end of the season.
Mirror Football reported a fortnight ago that Greenwood was attracting interest from a number of clubs in Italy, with Lazio and Napoli joining Juventus in the race for the Manchester United academy graduate. It's understood that Napoli have even held formal talks with United over a potential deal, while Lazio came close to landing Greenwood before he joined Getafe.
While speculation over his future continues, Greenwood took to social media last month to send a message to Getafe fans following the conclusion of his loan spell. In a rare post, Greenwood thanked supporters for making him feel welcomed before wishing them all the best for the future.
The striker wrote: "Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season. Thank you for making me feel welcome and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my team-mates and club. A bitter-sweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best."
