Singer Angela Bofill passes away

AMERICAN singer Angela Bofill died in California on June 13, her manager confirmed on Saturday. She was 70.

"On behalf of our dear friend Angie, I am saddened to announce her passing on the morning of June 13th," a statement on her Facebook page states.

Bofill's manager, Rich Engel, further confirmed her passing in another post on the singer's Facebook page.

She was known for her songs "This Time I'll Be Sweeter," "Angel of the Night," and "I Try," as well as appearing in the movie "Friends in Love" with Sharon Cuneta.

Bofill visited the Philippines twice: In 2000, she performed alongside Christopher Cross, Kenny Rankin and Rex Smith at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as part of the Reminiscing 2 concert.

In 2004, she held a two-day performance at Merk's Bar Bistro in Makati City and released an album, "Live in Manila" in 2006.

Musical director and arranger Lorrie Ilustre worked with Bofill during her concerts in the Philippines.

"I had the privilege of working with her as her musical director and arranger during her shows in the Philippines. We performed at the Araneta Coliseum with Christopher Cross for two nights," Ilustre wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday.

"Years later, I returned to Manila to do some shows with her again. We played in Makati for two nights before flying to Cebu City for another concert. During that time, she was very committed to healthy living, getting plenty of exercise, and eating only fruits and vegetables. In Cebu, I joined her for breakfast, and she only had our delicious mangoes," he added.

According to the Facebook page of the singer, Bofill's funeral will be held at St. Dominic's Church in Vallejo, California, on June 28 at 1 p.m. local time.
