Jon Heyman’s ‘best guess’ sends Marlins’ Tanner Scott to Yankees at MLB Trade Deadline

With the MLB Trade Deadline six weeks away, the New York Yankees are expected to be looking for some help in the bullpen.

Among the top targets expected to be available on the market includes Miami Marlins veteran closer Tanner Scott.

In making his "best guesses" as to where the top players will be traded at the deadline, Jon Heyman of The Post had the Yankees coming away with adding the veteran southpaw.

Other teams believed to be in the running for Scott, per Heyman, include the Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.

The 29-year-old veteran is sporting a spectacular 1.93 ERA entering Saturday. He has 31 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched while his 83.0 mph average exit velocity sits in the 100th percentile among pitchers.

Though his strikeout numbers may not be stellar, his 31.8% whiff rate is in the 90th percentile, and the Yankees will love his high ground-ball rate (94th percentile).

Despite the Yankees bullpen owning a sharp 3.13 ERA, the third-best in MLB entering Saturday, their 8.52 K/9 rate ranks 19th in MLB.

The Yankees have a solid closer in Clay Holmes, who has been fantastic for the majority of the season. Still, the Yankees need some swing-and-miss stuff in the bullpen while also needing to upgrade the lefty arms.

Scott checks both boxes for the Yankees, which makes him an ideal target as the trade deadline nears.
