'Inside Out 2' Star Sarayu Blue Shares Which Emotion Drives Her Mind & Talks 'Expats' Fan Response | THR Video
Is this your first time seeing the film today on the big screen? And I'm so excited. I can't wait. What did you think when they brought you this role or how did you get involved in the movie? I was really excited when they came to me with the role. I was like, Oh my God, are you, are you for real? Are you for real? I screamed. I mean I love the first one. I'm an eternal fan of Disney Pixar. And so then to be a part of this story just felt it's just I was over the moon. Do you remember how watching the 1st movie made you feel? Oh God yes of course. How could I forget? And it made me feel everything. I mean the the sort of slew of emotions that you go through watching these movies because they're so heartfelt and they're so beautiful. What do you love about working on animated projects like this? I think one of my favorite things about animation is that it doesn't matter like how you look. So much of it is just getting to play and be free and you're the imagination runs wild. And so it's just a really fun playground. And for you, you're also in expats. What has it been like kind of with the fan response to that show? I it's been, I've been very thankful. It's been surreal. I feel blown away because, you know, the truth is you just never know how anything will be received. And the way people have responded has been really exciting and moving. What was the most memorable part about working on that project for you? Getting to film in Hong Kong, I mean, that was just a dream. It was like, I miss the food all the time. I made the best friends. It was really, it's so rare to get to do something like that, where you film in the location that a show was set in or a movie, you know. And so getting to do that was amazing. And with Inside Out too. Did you get to record with anybody in the booth or were you totally solo? I was totally solo, but I had so much fun and like, you know, the way I was directed, I got to do some improv and play and it was just the best. Since this movie is all about emotions, which emotion would you say runs the Control Board in your head? Like Joy runs the Control Board in Riley's head? I would say empathy. I'm like such a big soft heart. And it's like, I don't recommend it in terms of like as a way to move through the world. It's a lot, but I am glad that I'm that way. I got to see the movie on Friday. I did and I loved it so much and I'm excited for everybody to see it on the big screen today. But it made me think about the importance of maintaining your joy and still tapping into that as you get older because sometimes we lose it with age. For you, what's the way that you try to stay in touch with your inner child and still maintain and find your joy? You know, that is a great question and point. And I have to tell you, working on my joy has been a muscle because I can get really like, oh, I worry I can get anxious. I can get, you know, take on the way to the world. And I think one of the ways I really tap into my joy is dancing and being just silly and dancing around and like being free and playful about life in general.
