Thomas Müller warns Germany to not get ahead of itself after a strong display against Scotland

Thomas Müller’s days as a starter for the German national team might be behind him, but that didn’t stop the Bayern Munich man from putting in a classy display as a substitute in Germany’s 5-1 victory over Scotland to kick off Euro 2024.

After watching Germany comfortably dominate for three-quarters of the match, Müller came on for club teammate Jamal Musiala in the 74th minute, assisting an offside Niklas Füllkrug goal just two minutes later and providing an official assist to Emre Can’s 93rd-minute strike.

After the match, Müller was captured by Sky reporter Patrick Berger (via @iMiaSanMia) speaking about the win, saying, “It’s just the first step, but we hadn’t taken it in the last few tournaments. It was a great start today. But we have to keep our feet on the ground now.”

Not only does Germany still have a lot of games left in the tournament, but looking as good as it did against Scotland might not mean much in the grand scope of things. No disrespect to Scotland, but they’re a far cry from the likes of France and Portugal. Add to this the fact that Germany’s opponent was down to 10 men for half the match and it’s made even clearer that Germany should avoid feeling overconfident and instead put its head down and focus on the next game.

Let the celebrations be brief, there’s still a long way to go.
