Trevor Lawrence signs 5-year, $275 million contract extension | The Carton Show
Moving on to this gentleman who will not be saying hike, he will be under Center for the Jaguars and he will be there for quite some time. Yeah. He agreed to a five year, $275 million extension with 200 million guaranteed. His AAV average annual value of that contract is $55 million. Do you think Lawrence will live up to the expectations that a deal like this brings with it? No, he look, he, he's a good quarterback. I'm not going to say he's a bad quarterback. He's not an incompetent quarterback. He obviously regressed a little bit last year, especially in the second-half of last year when they went from week 9 having the best record in the AFC and being. The number one seed, as we started talking about, you know, playoff positioning and they fell right off a Cliff. And he's a big reason why your interceptions had a couple nagging injuries. Also, to be fair, you know, which is not something he's really dealt with a lot in his career. But, you know, this is crazy talk. But it's also indicative of where we are in the NFL. It is so hard to find a franchise quarterback that when you think you have one, you've got no choice but to pay. So I don't begrudge Trevor Lawrence getting the money. Good for him. Yeah, it's great that he's got that kind of loot, generational wealth, and he's now the highest paid player in the history of the NFL, tied with Joe Burrow. It's the same exact deal Joe Burrow got. And then it starts. You can start asking the question, well, who's the next quarterback to go? A lot of us think it's going to be Jordan Love. The question then becomes, you know, Trevor Lawrence Scott, because he got to play right away more of a resume than a Jordan Love has. But we saw Jordan Love play better football than Trevor Lawrence over the last six weeks of last year. Are the Green Bay Packers now going to give Jordan Love a contract commensurate with what those guys just saw are making? And my gut is, yeah, they have no choice. Because think about all the teams out there that are dying to find a franchise quarterback, not just this year, but for a lot of franchises like mine, the New York Jets, like the Chicago Bears, who have never had a legitimate franchise quarterback, they would love to have a guy like Trevor Lawrence, which is why the Jaguars were really put in a corner. You know, you could say we're going to let you play out in your five, and then we're gonna take the risk that you become a free agent. Or, in theory, we could tag you and that would cost us a boatload of dough for a year. Or we're gonna do the right thing and recognize that while you've not been perfect, you've not grown maybe the way we wanted you to grow. There's nothing else out there that's better, so we better lock you up.
