U.S. Open 2024 tee times, pairings, featured groups for Saturday's Round 3 at Pinehurst
Pinehurst No. 2 has played remarkably tough through two rounds, but a handful of potential first-time major winners are holding steady near the top of the leaderboard.
Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay and Matthieu Pavon refused to fade on Friday after strong opening rounds, with Cantlay showing his resolve by bouncing back after a double-bogey threatened to derail his hopes.
The challenge for that trio and all other potential first-time major champions will be holding off Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau and Xander Schauffele, who all now know what it's like to thrive in high-pressure moments and are lingering not far behind the leaders entering the weekend.
Not included in Saturday's action will be a few notable names, including Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Viktor Hovland and Phil Mickelson after each missed the cut. Scottie Scheffler just barely snuck into the weekend, sitting right at the +5 cut line.
