HOUSTON — The celebration of freedom continues in Houston this weekend with several Juneteenth events.
Juneteenth, or Freedom Day, commemorates the historic day on June 19, 1865, when slaves in Galveston learned they were free two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
It's been celebrated in Texas for decades, and in 2021, it became a federal holiday.
