Four Russian military aircraft violated Finnish airspace in one day

Russian bombers and fighter jets violated Finnish airspace on Monday, June 10, according to the Finnish Border Guard, reports Reuters.

Initially, Finland had information that on June 10, one Russian combat aircraft violated the country's airspace.

“As the investigation progresses, it has become apparent that in addition to the one Russian plane reported earlier, there is also reason to suspect three other planes of territorial infringement,” the border guards said.

According to the Border Guard, the airspace was violated by two bombers and two fighters. They flew 2.5 kilometers deep into Finland.

"Of course, if these kinds of airspace violations happen, and if they are deliberate and serious, we react to them but the investigation is ongoing and the Border Guard is in charge of it," Finland's Chief of Defence Janne Jaakkola told Reuters.

Finland closed its border with Russia

Back in 2023, the Finnish authorities decided to close all checkpoints on the border with Russia amid an influx of illegal migrants.

This decision has been extended several times and is still in effect.

Tensions between Russia and Finland have increased since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Because of Moscow's aggression, Finland became a NATO member.
