Armenian Prime Minister pledges to withdraw country from CSTO

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced that Armenia will cease membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which Yerevan has repeatedly criticized.

During his speech in the Armenian parliament, he accused the founders of the CSTO of forming an alliance bubble and failing to fulfill their agreements but planning a war against Armenia with Azerbaijan.

"We will withdraw. We will make a decision. What do you think is the next step? Should we go back? No, there is no other way," the head of the Armenian government emphasizes.

Criticism of CSTO

Armenian authorities have sharply criticized the CSTO for its inaction after Azerbaijan launched its operation in Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023.

Since then, Yerevan has moved closer to the West and away from Russia.

Back in March, Pashinyan said that Armenia would withdraw from the CSTO if the organization did not explain its area of responsibility in his country.

At the same time, he claimed that two CSTO countries helped Azerbaijan prepare for an operation against Armenia in 2023.
