Peace summit's joint statement will not call for withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine

Participants in the Peace Summit will be presented with a draft joint statement that does not call for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory, citing NHK.

According to a statement from the Swiss government, 90 countries and organizations will be present at the summit.

The draft joint statement includes only three of the ten points from Ukraine's peace formula. These points are:

・Safety of nuclear power plants;

・Food security;

・Release of all prisoners and the return of children deported to Russia.

However, the document does not include demands for:

・Withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukrainian territory;

・Restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity.

The joint statement, however, will emphasize the importance of involving the Russian Federation in discussions aimed at achieving peace.

"According to diplomatic sources, the withdrawal of Russian troops and other provisions called for by Ukraine were not included in the draft statement, taking into account the positions of some rapidly growing Asian and Middle Eastern economies that maintain ties with Russia," NHK adds.

Peace summit

The meeting will take place from June 15 to 16 in Switzerland. During the summit, countries and organizations will also discuss Ukraine's peace formula, which is expected to help end the full-scale war in Ukraine on fair terms.

Swiss President Viola Amherd stated that her country has been experiencing an increase in cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns ahead of the Global Peace Summit.
