Celtics Al Horford Looks to Make NBA History vs. Mavs
JUNE 3 AL HORFORD HAS JASON KIDD-LIKE ASPIRATIONS
If the Boston Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, history will be made. Only three players in year 17 or later were able to win their first championship. Dallas Mavericks Jason Kidd is the most recent player to accomplish this in 2011; Al Horford would be the latest player to make history in that regard if Boston culminates its journey as the one-seed to grasping the Larry O'Brien trophy.
JUNE 3 CAM'RON IS TEAM MAVERICKS IN RAP DISS TOWARD ANTHONY EDWARDS
In the entertainment space, there are certain people you don't provoke. One of them is Cam'ron. Before Cam'ron co-hosted his "It Is What It Is" podcast, the Harlem, New York native spit bars for a living, getting into verbal spats with the likes of Nas and Jay Z.
Adidas and Anthony Edwards, however, failed to realize the bear they poked in a recent ad. Cam'ron promptly responded with a freestyle on his recent podcast episode, mentioning Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving while rocking a No. 77 Dallas Mavericks jersey.
JUNE 2 MAVS COMEBACK FOR THE AGES
The 2011 NBA Finals had a few notable moments, but none of them spoke volumes like the Dallas Mavericks' Game 2 comeback win. Down 15 in the fourth quarter, on the road vs. the Miami Heat, the Mavericks ended the game on a 22-5 run, cherry-topped with a game-winning Dirk Nowitzki layup.
It's safe to say the Mavs wouldn't have won the championship without such a monumental comeback.
Now, the Mavs will look to bring home their second title in franchise history as they take on the Boston Celtics next week in the 2024 NBA Finals.
JUNE 1 NEW ERA IN DETROIT BASKETBALL?
According to The Athletic, Troy Weaver and the Detroit Pistons plan to part ways following a four-year tenure that saw only 74 wins. The Pistons finished with the worst record in the league last season and still failed to obtain a top-three lottery pick in the 2024 NBA draft.
MAY 31 BOSTON HOSTILITY FOR KYRIE IRVING
The NBA Finals matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics hasn't even been set for 24 hours, and yet, Boston fans' hostility toward Dallas star point guard Kyrie Irving has already hit the ground running.
Following the Mavs' Western Conference Finals Game 5 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Barstool Sports, whose founder and owner is noted Celtics fan David Portnoy, posted a gruesome, distasteful t-shirt for sale on their website. The shirt portrays the Celtics mascot, Lucky, propping his cane up on a cartoon version of Irving's head.
