Detroit Lions OTAs: Live updates from first open session
It's Day 3 of organized team activities for the Detroit Lions on Thursday, but this one is a bit different than the first two because it is the first that is open to the media, which will give us an inside look at practice.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided some injury updates ahead of practice, with the most notable being safety Brian Branch. Campbell revealed that Branch underwent a clean-up procedure but didn't go into specifics.
We do know that Branch was using a scooter to get around and had a boot on his foot thanks to a photo of the former second-round pick in the days after the 2024 NFL Draft.
Campbell added that Branch should be good to go by training camp but did leave the door open for his recovery to take longer than that. Campbell said Branch should be ready by the start of the season, at the latest.
Along with that news, Campbell revealed that the Lions will hold joint practices with the New York Giants for the third straight year. Campbell hoped to take part in practices with the Kansas City Chiefs, also, but was rebuffed by head coach Andy Reid, who traditionally is not a fan of joint sessions.
