Palmer, Caicedo goals, Sánchez save nominated for Premier League’s best of the season
Cole Palmer has won plenty of individual accolades for his accomplishments this season already, but he might add a couple more before all is said and done, after earning nominations for the Premier League’s Goal of the Season and “Game Changer” of the Season awards as well.
The latter award is new, I believe — UPDATE: it’s in its third season actually! — and it’s meant to recognize an individual’s performance in one match (as opposed to the whole season). And Palmer’s hat-trick against Manchester United in Chelsea’s most ridiculously dramatic 4-3 win from a few weeks ago, which broke several league records for comebacks, certainly qualifies as a game-changing performance. (Shoutout to game-changing goals from this blog’s ancient history!)
Other nominated for this award include Darwin Núnez (v. Newcastle), Ollie Watkins (v. Brighton), Scott McTominay (v. Brentford), Kevin De Bruyne (v. Newcastle), and Stefan Ortega (v. Spurs). You should vote for Palmer here.
In more familiar awards, we have a nomination for Robert Sánchez for Save of the Season.
Sánchez hasn’t played in forever, getting injured then losing his starting spot then getting injured again, but he did make this tremendous save against Aston Villa back in September. We lost anyway, but this save is top draw.
There’s a whopping nine total nominees, all equally fantastic. I love a double- or a triple-save, so I’d have to go for Thomas Kaminski’s. (Courtoisssss’s triple-save from what’s now almost a decade(!) ago still awesome.)
You can vote here.
Last but certainly not least, we come to the Goal of the Season nominees, and thankfully they waiting until after the final day to put together the shortlist, because Moisés Caicedo’s effort from the center circle certainly should be up there ... if not winning it all.
Our other nominated goal is Cole Palmer’s wonderful effort against Everton, which won Chelsea Goal of the Season a couple weeks ago (because we would never score amazing goals in the last two weeks of the season, right?).
One-upping the Saves category, there are a total of 10 nominees for this. Good luck in picking one out. Vote here.
