Multi-million euro Westmeath housing development given green light
A Kildare based construction firm has been approved plans to undertake a multi-million euro housing development in county Westmeath.
Marina Quarter Ltd lodged plans last November to construct 177 homes on an 18 acre site at Cornamaddy, Athlone.
The scale of the plans will see the vast bulk of the proposed units stretch over two to three storeys and include detached, semi-detached, terraced houses, maisonettes as well as three storey apartments.
The largest number of those will see 71 three bedroom houses come on stream with a further 65 homes taking the shape of two bedroom units. Nine larger four bedroom houses and over 30 apartments and duplexes are likewise included.
The plans, which were rubber-stamped by local authority planning officials, come with 24 conditions attached.
They include requirements for Marina Quarter to lodge a €1m cash bond as security governing the development’s completion.
Another condition outlined by the council sets out an obligation on company bosses to pay over €580,000 in development contributions.
