Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted the Scottish champions would be competitive in the event the club one day features in the Premier League.

The prospect of Celtic and Rangers moving to the Premier League has been floated on numerous occasions in the past.

A switch to the Premier League has been touted as a way for the Old Firm clubs to significantly boost their finances, making the clubs more competitive in European competition as a result.

While there are no current plans for either club to move from the Scottish Premiership, the topic was raised while Rodgers was a guest on talkSPORT.

Host Alan Brazil suggested both Celtic and Rangers would be competitive in the Premier League if they were boosted by the top flight's vast resources compared to the sums they receive from the Scottish Premiership.

Rodgers agreed with the assessment and expressed his confidence Celtic would compete in the upper echelons of the Premier League.

'Celtic and Rangers - and I can only talk from a Celtic perspective - us an absolutely massive club worldwide,' Rodgers said.

'There is no doubt, if Celtic were in the Premier League, it would be up there in minimum top six, that bracket.

'It's absolutely incredible, no matter where you are in the world, you will meet Celtic supporters.

'The fanbase, the history of the club, that's what makes it a truly, truly massive club.'

Fans were quick to have their say on Rodgers comment, with several insisting Celtic would struggle if they moved to the Premier League.

'Huge club, but current team would struggle in the Championship,' one fan suggested.

Another claimed Celtic would be 'bottom five on a good year', while one claimed there was 'not a chance' the Scottish champions would compete for a top six spot in the Premier League.

Others, however, noted that Rodgers had suggested the club would be competitive with Premier League revenues.

They suggested that increased finances and sponsorship, as well as boasting a 60,832 capacity stadium, Celtic would soon feature in the top end of the Premier League.

Celtic claimed their 12th Scottish Premiership title in 13 years earlier this month and have finished the season eight points clear of Rangers.

Rodgers highlighted the importance of qualification to next season's Champions League, with the competition viewed as vital to boosting the club's finances.

Celtic will end the season on Saturday when they face Rangers in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park.
