Victor Font calls on Laporta to ‘step aside’ at Barca
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been urged to step aside from his role at the club by Victor Font, his closest rival at the last election.
Font has written a lengthy letter to the Barcelona president to share his “deep concern” that he says members feel about the club’s current situation and future.
The 51-year-old highlights several areas of concern in particular, not least the “terrible management” of current first-team boss Xavi Hernandez.
Xavi is currently expected to be relieved of his duties after Sunday’s final game of the season against Sevilla. Hansi Flick is the current favorite to take over and is said to have a verbal agreement with the club.
Font also outlines his concerns about the club’s financial status and worries about finding a buyer for Barca Studies, claiming Laporta’s valuation is “unrealistic.”
The former presidential candidate also calls for more transparency, urges Barca to avoid carrying out “dubious operations” to balance the accounts and demands Laporta and Co rebuild the club “from the foundations”
Laporta is also asked to “take a step aside” if he does not have the heart to move Barcelona forward because Font and Co. “represent a new generation of cules” who are “prepared to transform the club.”
