Court grants exclusive possession of Huckitta Station
On the sandy banks of the Plenty River, a federal court sitting like no other. The court is satisfied that native title exists over the land and waters of the determination area. The native title holders of Hakata Station, 3 hours northeast of Alice Springs, gathering to celebrate a significant determination. We're so happy and proud. Wonderful, real good, too deadly. They're receiving the strongest form of native title under the act, meaning they'll be able to exclusively possess. Use and enjoy the land, get strong and get together and we're going to be all mob one mobbed in. The decision has been a long time coming. Clan groups first started researching the claim in 2010, shortly after purchasing the pastoral lease for the station. For many years we was waiting for this to happen. All our people passed away. The one was, you know, talking about this country all the time. This decision covers almost 1700 square kilometres of land. It allows native title holders to hunt, gather, carry out cultural activities and ceremonies, and to use resources from the land for economic benefits. I will take kids that you know, country visit, show them. We got push medicine, push Tuckers. We got to teach our young ones. Better place to live in, you know, safeguarding the land for generations to come.
