New Yorker flies six hours to visit London for just 24 hours

A travel influencer flew across the Atlantic Ocean from New York City to London for just one memorable day.

Kevin Droniak, 26, later said that the reason for his whistle stop trip was because his beloved grandmother, who stars in many of his videos, suffered a fall and he needed to take care of her, originally he planned to spend a week in the English capital.

Instead of missing the trip completely, Kevin decided to board a six-hour flight and make the most of his short time across the pond, taking in afternoon tea, riding on the underground and a double decker bus before spending the night bar hopping.

Around 6am the following morning, he was back at Heathrow Airport and on his way back to the US, albeit with a dead phone.

Droniak made the journey on May 10 and says it was definitely 'worth it' as the flight cost just $350 and he was able to travel without any luggage.

'Since the clock was ticking when I arrived, it was a jam-packed day, there wasn't much sitting around. If you have a large amount of time to travel you often want to relax but I was like "let's go,"' he says.

'It was a fun day. It felt like a dream because when I got back I was like 'I can't believe I did that.'

Droniak posted about his exploits on his Instagram page, where he boasts over 120,000 followers.

The first video began with him standing outside of Grand Central Station in Manhattan, indicating that he secured a cheaper flight by traveling out of Newburgh Airport, located an hour north of the city.

'If you don’t travel often, you’re going to have a conniption at what I’m doing right now. I’m going to for just one night. That’s why I’m heading to the airport with just a backpack,' he said.

When traveling through the airport, Droniak said that even the person at the check-in counter asked him: 'Are you seriously flying across the world for one night?'

'My flight is only six and a half hours, and it’s a red eye. And I’m going to be going to sleep anyway tonight. So I might as well go to sleep on a plane and wake up in London,' Droniak tells his followers.

Many commenters were angry at Droniak for apparently contributing to pollution by taking the plane ride for such a short trip.

He countered these claims in a brief comment he made to The Independent arguing that the jet was headed to London with or without him on board.

'Therefore emitting the same amount of carbon as it would have if I didn’t board the plane. I believe people should put their energy towards celebrities who abuse their private jets and also the major corporations who are contributing to climate change, instead of me, a consumer,' he said.

Droniak made similar comments in a subsequent Instagram video where he pointed out that many of his critics are also not the most responsible when it comes to the environment, at least one who was highlighted purchased clothing via fast fashion.

Fast fashion largely relies on the use of materials that cannot be broken down or recycled, contributing to the plastic waste problem.
