BBC viewers call Glastonbury producers 'evil' as SZA becomes latest star to be hit with sound issues

Glastonbury fans watching SZA's headline set at home via the BBC have called out yet another bout of sound issues for a performer.

Dua Lipa, Shania Twain and more have all been plagued with sound issues at Worthy Farm this weekend, and SZA joined the club during her headline set on Sunday night.

The American soul singer appeared to face some sound issues as she began her headline set on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury 15 minutes late - with a smaller crowd than usual formed for the final act of the weekend.

The star treated fans at Worthy Farm to hits including Love Galore, the day after her headline show at British Summer Time in London’s Hyde Park. SZA, whose real name is Solana Rowe, appeared on stage on an elevated podium to perform the intro to her hit PSA.

She was then lowered down to the stage which was adorned with elaborate pillars and a large insect, which she sat on for one number. She asked her assembled fans : "Do I have any day ones in the crowd?"

SZA certainly had some day ones watching at home on the telly, with many rushing to social media to slam Glastonbury sound producers for doing their idol dirty. "Omg fix the microphone? Glastonbury's sound techs have been awful today #glastonbury," one fumed on Twitter /X.

"It’s not just the mic it’s the whole sound," another declared, as a third quipped: "The evil, evil #Glastonbury sound people." One heartbroken fan wrote: "People questioning if SZA should headline, and then they completely wreck her set with the worst sound/mic issues I've ever heard, just awful really feel for her #Glastonbury." Another agreed, tweeting: "Glastonbury really doing Sza’s sound dirty like this it’s embarrassing!! A whole headline act SMH."

SZA performs during the Glastonbury Festival in Worthy Farm, Somerset, England, Sunday

The talented American songstress commanded the main stage on Sunday evening at the legendary festival. But before SZA could captivate her audience under the Glastonbury lights, social media was abuzz with sympathy for the star. Fans expressed disappointment when they noticed the size of the crowd seemed modest.

Contrastingly, SZA experienced a turnout boom on Saturday as she wowed 50,000 fans at BST Hyde Park, London. Insiders at BST disclosed that the numbers she attracted there made Glastonbury's audience look sparse by comparison. Nonetheless, it's been a bumper weekend for SZA financially; insiders say she bagged around £500,000 for the BST gig and roughly £200,000 for headlining Glastonbury.

When the 34-year old was unveiled as one of the main acts for this year's festival, there was some confusion about who she was - a singer, a DJ, or even a band. SZA, pronounced 'scissor' - real name Solana Imani Rowe - is an American R&B artist who has released two studio albums, three EPs, one live album, and 44 singles (11 as a featured artist). She's become one of the most streamed artists worldwide and certainly deserves her spot on the line-up alongside Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Shania Twain.
