William Kamm: Why Pedophile cult leader ‘Little Pebble’ is back in court

A convicted pedophile and cult leader has admitted to breaching the strict conditions of his release from jail.

William Kamm, the self-proclaimed leader of the “Order of St Charbel” who refers to himself as “Little Pebble”, was rearrested last year over alleged breaches of an extended supervision order which were meant to keep tabs on him after he served a prison sentence for preying on two teenage girls.

Kamm, 74, served nearly a decade in jail for the sexual assault of two teenage girls between 1993 and 1995 at his cult’s compound near Nowra in southern NSW.

Both of his victims were female followers who were told they would be among his 12 “queens” and 72 “princesses” who would help him repopulate a “royal dynasty” after the second coming of Jesus, the court previously heard.

The convicted pedophile was released on parole in 2014, but the state successfully applied for monitoring conditions to be imposed on him because of the risk of reoffending.

He was rearrested in May last year, with police alleging he used a WordPress blog and used incognito mode on his phone, in contravention of his reporting conditions.

He was charged with four counts of failing to comply with an extended supervision order.

He was released on bail, however he was taken back into custody earlier this year after the Crown prosecution made a successful detention application in the Supreme Court.

In court on Monday, Kamm’s lawyers entered a guilty plea to two of the charges.

One of the charges will be withdrawn, the court heard, with the other to be taken into account when he is sentenced.

He will return to court in August.
